Des pistes avec vues sur les montagnes dans la brume. Parfois une forte odeur de feu de chemin\u00e9e, ce sont les fum\u00e9es des bushfire (feux de Bush) qui arrivent jusqu&rsquo;\u00e0 nous. Tr\u00e8s calme \u00e0 l&rsquo;installation, nous plantons la tente pr\u00e8s des poules et des moutons derri\u00e8re une palissade \u00e0 l &lsquo;abri du vent. Au moment de se coucher une famille allume son ampli et c&rsquo;est concert de chansons folk pendant au moins 1h, d&rsquo;autres ne l&rsquo;entendent pas de cette oreille et sortent eux aussi leur guitare. Bref une cacophonie s&rsquo;en suit. Le poste p\u00e9nitentiaire fut \u00e9tabli en 1830 en tant que scierie, se servant de la main d&rsquo;\u0153uvre de bagnards pour produire du bois sci\u00e9 pour des projets gouvernementaux. A partir de 1833, Port Arthur fut utilis\u00e9 en tant que poste p\u00e9nitentiaire pour les r\u00e9cidivistes de toutes les colonies australiennes. En 1840 plus de 2000 bagnards, soldats et fonctionnaires civils vivaient l\u00e0, la ville \u00e9tant devenue une colonie industrielle majeure. Ils produisaient pierres ouvr\u00e9es, briques, bateaux et navires en passant par les meubles et les v\u00eatements.<br \/>\nEn 1877 la colonie p\u00e9nitentiaire fut ferm\u00e9e, beaucoup de b\u00e2timents d\u00e9mont\u00e9s ou d\u00e9truits par des feux de brousse. D&rsquo;autres furent vendus et le secteur devint peu \u00e0 peu le centre d&rsquo;une petite ville rebaptis\u00e9e Carvanon, pour tenter d&rsquo;effacer la stigmatisation p\u00e9nitentiaire. Dans les ann\u00e9es 1920 le tourisme commen\u00e7a et certains b\u00e2timents devinrent h\u00f4tels ou mus\u00e9e et la ville rebaptis\u00e9e Port Arthur.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_4237\"
